The Ageing Well Network is a group of people from all over the Hutt Valley who come together to provide mutual support to tackle isolation by sharing food, experiences, laughter and lots of hugs.
We set up the network to provide new ways for older people to maintain their wellbeing while living independently. It’s grounded in our long history of caring for older people in the community, and our skills and experience in community-led development and innovation.
You can become part of the Ageing Well Network in two ways:
Our 10-week Ageing Well course is a great opportunity to connect with other vibrant seniors/kaumātua for fellowship and companionship. We have a real focus on contribution, helping people to build new friendships and find ways of sharing with others.
Each course has 8 to 10 participants. You’ll meet once a week at Wesley Rātā Village in Naenae. You and the other participants will lead the direction of the group yourselves, doing activities such as making crafts for others in the community, going on outings, gardening, and having visits from guest speakers.
We partner with the Hutt Timebank to contribute to the wider community where possible.
After the course is finished you can join our weekly Ageing Well coffee group where you can continue to build on the friendships you have made. The coffee group meets on Monday afternoons at Wesley Rātā Village in Naenae.
Cost: $50 for the 10-week Ageing Well course. Lunch is included and transport is available if needed.
Our Ageing Well Network relies on our amazing volunteers to work. They help with picking up members from their homes, help to prepare the food and support the smooth running of each session. Ideally volunteers are part of Hutt Timebank and gain time-credits for their involvement.
Volunteering with the Ageing Well Network is a fast way to make a whole lot of new friends!
